PEACE OFFICER

The opportunity

Leduc County is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Peace Officer to join our team. Reporting to the Director – Enforcement Services, this exciting opportunity enforces municipal bylaws and provincial statutes to protect county interests and contribute to the safe transportation of people and goods. As a member of the Enforcement Services team, the peace officer contributes to the achievement of the department’s operational deliverables.

What you will do

• Conducts proactive enforcement and public safety activities while responding to public complaints in compliance with:
  • The requirements of the Alberta Public Security Peace Officer Program, legislative requirements.
  • Service standards defined in Leduc County’s Community Peace Officer Performance Plan.
• Assists departments with any enforcement issues.
• Attends and represents Leduc County in court proceedings, as required.
• Participates in public awareness campaigns and maintains positive public relations.
• Collaborates and participates in joint operations with various regional partners.
• Adheres to guidelines as set out in Leduc County’s policies and administrative directives.
• Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness Program.
• Performs related duties as required.

What you need to succeed

Must-have

• A certificate or diploma in a recognized law enforcement program.
• Three (3) years of law enforcement experience, including experience enforcing the Traffic Safety Act.
• Be eligible for and maintain Peace Officer appointment in Alberta.
• A Class 5 Alberta Driver’s license.
• Certification or be able to obtain Emergency Vehicle Operations certification.

Nice to have

Training and experience in commercial vehicle weights and dimensions, small vessel operations and off-highway vehicle operations are assets. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

The opportunity is permanent full-time and is working shiftwork that will provide 7 days a week coverage in the County. The office is located at 101-1101 5 St. Nisku, AB.
