 TRANSFER STATION ATTENDANT

CASUAL ON-CALL

The opportunity

Leduc County is looking for an experienced and highly motivated casual on-call Transfer Station Attendant to join our team. Reporting to the Supervisor – Waste Management and Utilities, this exciting opportunity is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the municipal solid waste transfer stations.

What you will do

  1. Performs the day-to-day operations at assigned waste transfer station, including opening and closing the facility for the hours and days of operation.
  2. Provides direction to transfer station users regarding the proper disposal of materials and directions regarding the unloading and sorting procedures within the transfer station site.
  3. Greets visitors in a professional and friendly manner, responds to inquiries and directs users to the appropriate area of the site for waste disposal.
  4. Redirects users with materials not accepted at the transfer station to alternate disposal locations.
  5. Maintains and updates applicable records and documents.
  6. Records and reports any unusual activity and/or misconduct observed at the transfer station.
  7. Adheres to preventative maintenance programs and operating guidelines for solid waste infrastructure.
  8. Keeps the site safe for users by completing routine safety inspections, identifying and reporting any hazards as well as coordinating any required yard maintenance (snow removal, grading, stock piling etc.) through supervisor or designate.
  9. Adheres to guidelines as set out in Leduc County’s policies and administrative directives.
  10. Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness Program.
  11. Performs related duties as required.

What you need to succeed

Must-have

Must be able to read and follow instructions in order to adhere to safety requirements and must have strong written and verbal communication skills, tact and courtesy to assist residents and provide clear site safety expectations and directions. Must maintain a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license and be able to work with minimal supervision.

Nice to have

Experience as a transfer station attendant is considered asset.

There are 8 transfer stations located throughout Leduc County. This opportunity is permanent casual, working on-call as needed Monday to Saturday up to eight (8) hours per shift and offers a competitive hourly salary between $22.36- $27.95 per hour.

The Leduc County office is located at 101-1101 5 St. Nisku, AB.
